Air India Express adds direct flights from Ayodhya to Bengaluru

Air India Express announced on Friday that it will expand its operations from the Ayodhya airport, which will be inaugurated on December 30. The airline has added flights to Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata from Ayodhya and to the holy city from those cities. The operations will begin on January 17.

Earlier, Air India Express announced flights from Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad to Ayodhya. IndiGo also made a similar announcement saying it will operate flights on these routes.

Both airlines will operate inaugural flights to the new airport in Ayodhya on December 30. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the international airport in the temple town on Saturday as part of the countdown to the grand consecration ceremony of the Ram Mandir.

Sources told India Today on Thursday that the airport has been renamed ‘Maharishi Valmiki International Airport Ayodhyadham’. It was earlier called the ‘Maryada Purshottam Shri Ram Ayodhya International Airport’.

According to airport sources, the concept behind the new airport aims to reflect the spirit of the Ram Mandir, invoking the joyous return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after a victorious battle against the demon king, Ravana.

The cost of the first phase of construction for the airport is estimated to be approximately Rs 1,450 crore.

The new terminal building, spanning 6,500 square meters, is designed to accommodate 600 peak-hour passengers, with an annual handling capacity of 10 lakh passengers.
